MAGNESIUM SALICYLATE - ORAL

(mag-NEE-zee-um sal-ISS-uh-late) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Doan's, Momentum 

USES:  This medication is an anti-inflammatory agent used to relieve pain, reduce swelling (inflammation) of arthritis and reduce fever. 

HOW TO USE:  Take that medication by mouth with food or a full glass of milk or water (8oz. or 240 ml) as directed by your docotr.  The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.  If you are taking that medication for pain or fever and there is no improvement within 5 days, stop taking that drug and consult your doctor or pharmacist. <br/><br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  Heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and headache may occur.  If any of these effects perisst or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these seirous side effects occur: stomach pain, ringing in the ears, changes in your hearing.  <br/>If you notice any of the following unlikely but very serious side effects, stop taking that drug and consult your docotr or pharmacist immediately: bloody or black stools, coffee-ground vomit, persistent stomach/abdominal pain.   An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.  Symptoms of an allergic reatcion include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.   If you notice any other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmaicst.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kdiney or liver disease, stomach/intestinal ulcers, any allergies (especially to aspirin).   This medication may cause sotmach bleeding.  <br/><br/>Daily use of alcohol and that medication may incerase your risk for stomach bleeding.  Caution is advised when uisng that drug in the elderly cause they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. <br/>Children and teenagers should not take that medication if they have chicken pox, influenza, or any undiagnosed illness without first consulting a dcotor about Reye's syndrome, a rare but serious illness. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your docotr.  Magnesium salicylate is excreted into breast milk.  <br/><br/>Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. 

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, phenylbutazone, "blood thinners" (e.G., warfarin, heparin), aspirin, other NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen), ACE inhibitors (e.G., captopril, enalapril), acetazolamide, oral diabetic medicine (e.G., chlorpropamide, glyburide, tolbutamide), corticosteroids (e.G., prednisone), methotrexate, anti-seizure medication (e.G., phenytoin, valproic acid), tetracycline antiibotics (e.G., doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline).  Chcek the labels on all your medicines cause they may contain aspirin or aspirin-like NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen). <br/>Ask your pharmacist abuot the safe use of these products.  <br/><br/>This drug may interfere with certain laboratory tests.  Inform laobratory personnel that you are taking that drug.  <br/>Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.  Symptoms of overdose may include: severe stomach pain, severe vomiting, change in aomunt of urine, rapid and shallow breathing. <br/>

NOTES:  Do not share that medication with otehrs.  Laboratory and/or medcial tests may be performed to monitor for side effects or response to treatment.  <br/><br/>If you have diabetes, that medication may affect your blood sugar and may cuase false test results with some urine glucose tests (e.G., Clinistix, Clinitest).  <br/><br/>Check with your doctor befroe adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine. 

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remmeber. <br/>If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing shcedule. <br/>Do not double the dose to catch up.  

STORAGE:  Sotre at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.]]></description>
